How Can You Lower Your High Cholesterol?

How Can You Lower Your High Cholesterol?

High cholesterol can be associated with older age.  Just because you are getting some grey hairs and the you are moving a little slower than you were before, cholesterol does not have to be apart of your aging process.

You can slow down bad cholesterol and reverse its negative effects on your heart and blood system.

Even if your cholesterol is in the very high range, no matter how old you are you can bring the levels down to a safe zone that will add years to your life.

This may take a life style change for you, but if you want to add more years to your life, you must lower your bad LDL cholesterol. You can lower your high LDL count by changing your diet.

Not only do you have to make the right food choices, you have to significantly change how some of those foods are cooked.  Some foods such as fish will lower your cholesterol not because they are low in fat, but because they have a natural substance known as Omega 3 fats.

Nuts make a good snack and they also provide an excellent way to avoid cholesterol laden snacks like chips and pretzels.  The nuts are very nutritious and contain ingredients that will lower your cholesterol through replacement or diet change.  The nut industry has put a lot of new combinations and flavors into their product line. Instead of having some chips and salsa, try some of the Wasabi and Soy Sauce flavored cashews that are out.  They have a real kick and will replace those cholesterol, fat laden chips and give you a nutritional supplement to boot.  Whatever taste you have, there are nuts that are flavored to satisfy most people. You have probably seen the commercials, but the commercials are dead on.  Oatmeal and cereal have been proven by research to lower your cholesterol significantly.  There are two theories that support this fact.  Either the components of oatmeal has chemical and nutritional properties that reduce cholesterol, or the oatmeal takes the place of eggs, bacon, sausage, and other breakfast foods that are packed full of cholesterol and other harmful substances.

Your may want to try foods that are packed with stanols.  You can find such foods as orange juice and some margarines.  This ingredient has the chemical properties that will reduce you cholesterol significantly.  Orange juice has the added benefit of Vitamin C.  To summarize, one of these foods has a chance to lower your cholesterol, but if you add all four components into your diet, you will have a powerful toolbox to fight high cholesterol counts and keep your cholesterol down in the future.  Remember high cholesterol is a killer and if you do not care for your self enough to change your diet, you might care enough for the family and friends around you.  High cholesterol is silent and unless you get it checked by a doctor, especially if you are going into your thirties and forties, you are setting yourself up for bad health in later life.
