Lowering Cholesterol Naturally Using Lecithin
Lecithin Claims Regarding Lowering Cholesterol
Some people do not like the traditional medical methods of lowering cholesterol. They either believe that if the disease can be controlled using natural substances, then it is better than putting chemicals in their body.
One natural approach to lowering cholesterol is a supplement called Lecithin.
Lecithin is a phospholipids that is produced in the live and can be found in different locations of the body each containing a different amount. There is an especially a lot of lecithin found around the nerve sheaths and the brain. Lecithin is a fatlike substance that helps emulsify fats. The location around the brain and nerves has been found beneficial because lecithin has a B vitamin that manufactures nerve transmitters. So what does this have to do about lowering cholesterol?
Lecithin has been known to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood and also helps to dissolve the plague that is coating the inside of arteries by previous LDL cholesterol. Manufacturers of the supplement also claim that it lowers blood pressure, softens aging skin, acts as a natural tranquilizer, increases alertness in the elderly, and reduces the yellow fatty deposits around the eyes. Sounds like a miracle drug, but does it really lower cholesterol?
An online blogger stated that he had a cholesterol reading of 371, this is dangerously high. His doctor put him on Mevacor and he was able to drop the cholesterol level down to 219. To is still to high for comfort. The gentleman claims that he began taking two lecithin a day, twice a day, along with niacin, capsicum, garlic, parsley, omega three, and Liv-J supplements. Two months later the cholesterol level was 163. Even the LDL levels were in the normal range. Sounds to good to be true, but be warned that this blog was on the advertisement page for the supplement lecithin. This may be placed there for advertisement purposes.
The medical benefits of lecithin comes from the fact that lecithin is a major source of choline. Choline is a liptropic substance that is used in the body’s metabolism. It is apart of the metabolic pathway the dissolves and digests fats. As the body uses the lecithin to burn fat, it will also be absorbed in the blood stream where it will dissolve away cholesterol there and at the same time dissolve away the plague upon the blood vessel wall. The less plague the less chance of heart disease that can include heart attack and stroke.
In two different research studies, the claims of the advertisers for lecithin were challenged. They both concluded that the lecithin did not have any affect on cholesterol. In both cases the researchers concluded that any cholesterol lowering in the test subjects were due to dietary change and not in the supplement. The only positive conclusion or finding that they did have was that the linoleic acid found within the lecithin could be the reason why some people lower their cholesterol with lecithin.
The studies were done with a small sample size and better results could be obtained with a larger sample size or a more concentrated amount of lecithin. Only twenty grams of the supplement was used in each study.
